In an effort to enhance security for the cryptocurrency industry, the French government said it will provide increased protection for crypto entrepreneurs and their families.
Crypto Entrepreneurs to Receive Safety Briefings
In a move to protect the crypto industry, the French government said it will now provide enhanced security to cryptocurrency entrepreneurs and their families. As part of the improved security measures, crypto entrepreneurs will get priority access to the police emergency line, as well as home visits and safety briefings.
According to a report, French law enforcement officers will receive “anti-crypto asset laundering training.” The country’s Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau said the objective is not only to dissuade attackers but to protect the industry. The French government’s decision to offer extra security comes against a background of rising incidents in which crypto entrepreneurs or their immediate families are targeted by armed gangs.
“These repeated kidnappings of professionals in the crypto sector will be fought with specific tools, both immediate and short-term, to prevent, dissuade and hinder in order to protect the industry,” the interior minister said.
As reported by Bitcoin.com News and other media outlets, the armed gangs’ tactics involve kidnapping and forcing victims to give up their digital assets. In the last reported incident, masked men attempted to kidnap the daughter of the CEO of the cryptocurrency exchange Paymium in central Paris. However, the kidnapping was thwarted by the executive who reportedly took on the masked men.
Meanwhile, Politico reported that French authorities are investigating recent incidents, with multiple arrests made under the direction of the organized crime prosecutor.
